And today, i had the joys of running over dog sh*t as i moved over to one side,allowing cyclists to pass by.
So, i guess a wipe over would do but i really want to get this massive amount out completely.

Since you are just needed to clean the soles, use a scrub brush, like a vegetable brush and some soap.
When they are really dirty, then take out the laces and inner soles and wash them in the washing machine on cold, gentle cycle let them air dry.
